Beyond Comfort: Embracing the Unfamiliar

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, lead us beyond our comfort zones and into the places where Your love is most needed. Help us to trust in Your strength and to embrace the unfamiliar with faith.

READ: Matthew 9:35 (NIV)

"Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness."

Matthew 9:35 (NIV)

REFLECT:

Jesus' ministry was marked by movement and action. He didn't wait for people to come to Him; He went to them, often stepping into places that were uncomfortable or unfamiliar. The message highlighted this aspect of Jesus' mission, challenging us to consider where we might be called to go.

Eric Neely's story is a powerful example of stepping beyond comfort. His decision to volunteer at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility was not an easy one, but it was a step of faith that led to incredible impact. Eric's willingness to row into the darkness, to engage with those society often overlooks, is a testament to the transformative power of following Jesus' example.

We are often tempted to stay within the boundaries of what is familiar and safe. Yet, the message reminds us that true spiritual growth and impact occur when we step out in faith. Jesus' example calls us to go to the towns and villages of our own lives, to the places where others may not want to go, and to bring the good news of the kingdom.

As we embrace the unfamiliar, we will find that God meets us there, equipping us with the courage and wisdom we need. Let us be willing to go, trusting that God will use our efforts to bring about His purposes.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will write an "I Will" statement that captures my personal commitment to embody the principles of going, seeing, feeling, asking, and praying in my life. I will remind myself that my willingness to go and show compassion can be the light that guides someone out of darkness and into the hope of Christ.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for calling us to follow in Your footsteps. Give us the courage to step beyond our comfort zones and to trust in Your strength. May our lives be a reflection of Your love and grace. Amen.
