Trusting In God's Power
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, as I study Your Word today, help me to trust in Your power and presence. Open my heart to understand how You work in my life and the lives of those around me. Amen.
"But Moses protested again, 'What if they won't believe me or listen to me? What if they say, "The Lord never appeared to you"?' Then the Lord asked him, 'What is that in your hand?' 'A shepherd's staff,' Moses replied. 'Throw it down on the ground,' the Lord told him. So Moses threw down the staff, and it turned into a snake! Moses jumped back. Then the Lord told him, 'Reach out and grab its tail.' So Moses reached out and grabbed it, and it turned back into a shepherd's staff in his hand. 'Perform this sign,' the Lord told him. 'Then they will believe that the Lord, the God of their ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—really has appeared to you.'"
Exodus 4:1-5 (NIV)
REFLECT:
In this passage, Moses continues to express his doubts and fears about his mission. He worries that the Israelites will not believe him or listen to his message. God's response is to provide Moses with a tangible sign of His power: the transformation of the shepherd's staff into a snake and back again. This miracle is meant to demonstrate God's presence and authority, reassuring Moses and convincing the Israelites.
The shepherd's staff, a simple and ordinary tool, becomes a powerful symbol of God's ability to use the ordinary for extraordinary purposes. This transformation is a reminder that God can take the mundane aspects of our lives and infuse them with His power and purpose. It also highlights the importance of obedience; Moses had to follow God's instructions to see the miracle unfold.
Reflecting on my own life, I can see how God has used ordinary circumstances and objects to reveal His power and presence. Whether it's a conversation with a friend, a challenging situation at work, or a moment of quiet reflection, God can use these moments to demonstrate His sovereignty and love. Trusting in God's power means being open to His work in every aspect of my life, no matter how ordinary it may seem.
APPLY:
Today, identify an ordinary aspect of your life that you can offer to God for His use. It could be a daily task, a relationship, or a personal challenge. Pray for God to reveal His power and presence in this area and be open to how He might use it for His purposes.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I WILL have a five-minute Intentional conversation with the kid in my life.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for showing me that You can use the ordinary for extraordinary purposes. Help me to trust in Your power and presence in every aspect of my life. Use me for Your glory, and help me to be obedient to Your calling. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
