The Best Investment Ever
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, help us to not worry about our lives. Help us set our minds on storing up treasures in heaven and not on earth.
READ:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Timothy 6:6-10
REFLECT:
This past year, it has been extremely hard not to worry. The country has been in turmoil due to a virus, politics, unrest among those that believed in things unforeseen. We also saw the storing up of good from the stores during the “lockdown”. God calls us not to store up our treasures here on earth, we are to feed and clothe ourselves and not hoard anything. We are also to give to those in need.
APPLY:
There have been many times this past year that I have reached out to those that had needs and I only do this by the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Most individuals do not ask for anything, “opportunity knocks”. We can’t be too busy to hear this voice inside our heart and head. Every day I pray, “Lord what would you have me do for others today, present the chance that I can bless someone in your name.” Teaching and keeping in contact with your students as an adult lends itself to many of these probabilities. Try it this morning. Ask God to show you how to take a chance and step outside your comfort zone and love beyond your quadrant of life.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord, for giving us what we need and show us how we can live for you more abundantly.
