Embracing the Mess

OPENING PRAYER:

Gracious God, as we explore Your Word today, help us to embrace the messiness of life with courage and faith. May we be willing to get our hands dirty for the sake of Your kingdom. Amen.

REFLECT:

Proverbs 14:4 offers a vivid metaphor for the messiness of life and the potential for growth and abundance that comes from embracing it. In his message, Pastor Hutchison highlighted the willingness of the four friends to get their hands dirty, literally digging through a roof to bring their friend to Jesus. This willingness to engage in the messiness of life is essential for bringing about God's kingdom on earth.

This passage challenges us to consider the cost of avoiding messiness. An empty manger may be clean, but it is also unproductive. In the same way, a life that avoids risk and messiness may be comfortable, but it is unlikely to bear much fruit. God calls us to embrace the messiness of life, trusting that He will bring about growth and abundance through our efforts.

In the context of the foster care crisis, this means being willing to step into difficult and challenging situations for the sake of others. It may involve fostering a child, supporting a foster family, or helping provide items or supplies to help families stay together. Whatever form it takes, we are called to be willing to get our hands dirty for the sake of God's kingdom.

Reflecting on this, we must ask ourselves how we can embrace the messiness of life with courage and faith. It may involve stepping out of our comfort zones, taking risks, and trusting God to guide us. As we do so, we become instruments of His love and grace in the world, bringing hope and healing to those in need.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will pick one way to be a part of God's solution to the foster care crisis in our community.

Pastor Hutchison offered everyone the opportunity to come to a meeting or a training on October 13 at 6pm to learn more about how you can get involved to make a difference. Find out more by going to pathwaychurch.com/fostercare

CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, thank You for the reminder that growth and abundance come from embracing the messiness of life. Help us to step out in faith, trusting You to guide and provide for us as we seek to bring Your love and hope to those in need. Amen.
