Living Ready
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, as we begin our journey in this new series of being ready for the return of Jesus, open our hearts and minds to Your Word. Guide us by Your Holy Spirit to understand and apply the teachings of Jesus about His return. Amen.
“So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.”
In this passage, Jesus speaks to His disciples about the importance of being watchful and ready for His return. He uses the analogy of a homeowner who must be vigilant to prevent a break-in, emphasizing the unexpected nature of His coming.
REFLECT:
This weekend, Pastor Carter’s message emphasizes the importance of spiritual readiness, drawing from Jesus' teachings in Matthew 24. Jesus warns His disciples to be watchful, as no one knows the day or hour of His return. This call to readiness is not just about anticipating a future event but living in a way that reflects our faith and commitment to Christ daily. The analogy of the homeowner highlights the need for constant vigilance. Just as a homeowner would not want to be caught off guard by a thief, we should not be caught unprepared for Jesus' return.
This readiness is not about fear but about living a life that honors God. It involves aligning our actions, thoughts, and priorities with His will. For new believers, this might mean establishing a routine of prayer and Bible study. For mature Christians, it could involve deepening their understanding of Scripture and finding new ways to serve others. The message reminds us that readiness is a state of being that requires intentionality and action.
In our personal lives, this means examining our daily routines and habits. Are we living in a way that reflects our belief in Jesus' imminent return? Are we using our time and resources to further His kingdom? These are questions that challenge us to live with purpose and urgency, knowing that our time on earth is limited and precious.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will take a step of obedience to become ready for the return of Jesus.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for the reminder to live ready. Help us to apply what we have learned today, making changes in our lives that reflect our commitment to You. May we grow in faith and readiness, always prepared for Your return. Amen.
