BIG IDEA:
Peace in the middle of division.
TEACHING POINTS:

• Peace is not found in the culture or circumstances of our lives.

• Jesus is the source of real peace.

• Jesus brings peace to our circumstances.

SCRIPTURE: John 14:27-29 NIV; Colossians 1:19-20 NIV; Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. As summer arrives what are you looking forward to the most?

2. As a kid, what was your favorite thing to do in the summer?

IN THE WORD:

1. Describe the circumstances that the disciples were facing. Why would it be difficult for them to experience peace? What was Jesus offering to bring them in John 14:27-29? John 14 NLT

2. How does Jesus reconcile all things? Colossians 1:19-20 NIV

3. What does Paul say is the antidote to our anxiety? Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. Share a difficult time in your life when you didn’t feel peaceful. What happened?

2. Share a difficult time in your life when Jesus brought peace? How did it happen? What was the difference?

3. How can you live each day experiencing God’s peace? What are some practical ways as a Home Team that you can encourage each other to be at peace?

CONTINUED LEARNING:

Read Philippians. What were the difficult circumstances that the Philippians and Paul were dealing with in the context of this letter? Read the entire book and make a list of the difficult circumstances he mentioned.

Say this prayer daily:

God of Peace,

We ask that you fill us with a peace that passes understanding.

Peace not as the world gives but as only you can give.

May we strive to be peaceMAKERS rather than peaceKEEPERS, knowing that you have called us to an active faith.

Help us keep our eyes focused on our similarities even as we work in different lanes to pursue your will.

Teach us to rest in the true peace of our hope in you.
