Reach Out
OPENING PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for this time to come before you and these moments of reflection. Help this time to be productive and eye opening.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
REFLECT:
I am a talk-it-out kind of person. If there is a situation I’m struggling with, either at work or at home, I feel so much better if I can discuss the situation with someone else. If there are issues I am having anxiety about, I just need to talk it through with someone in order to help gain better perspective. There is just something about having the support of another person that makes me feel better.
Are you like me? Does it help you to talk through your anxieties and worries with another person? Maybe you are the type of person who bottles all their feelings up. You choose not to discuss what you are struggling with because you don’t want to burden others with your worries. How we choose to work through our anxiety can affect if these anxieties are resolved or if they continue to fester.
The Bible tells us that having someone support you makes you stronger. A cord of three strands is not easily broken. Surrounding yourself with others that are willing to listen and can help you work through your anxieties builds you up. Making sure that we have these support systems in place can make all the difference when we face struggles.
APPLY:
Overcome anxiety by sharing your struggle with others. Think through who you have in your life that can support you during times of struggle and anxiety. It helps to know that we have others there to support us, if needed. Maybe it’s a family member, a friend, or a coworker. We all have people around us in our lives that can offer support and encouragement in times of struggle. Sometimes all that is needed is to reach out.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for reminding me that two are better than one. Give me courage to reach out to those around me for help.
