Embracing God's Purpose
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, as I begin this devotional journey, open my heart and mind to Your Word. Help me to understand Your purpose for my lives and to embrace the good works You have prepared for me. Amen.
"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
REFLECT:
We are using this passage from Ephesians today to kick off our daily devotional this week to remind us that we are created by God for a purpose. Paul emphasizes that our good works are not random but are prepared by God for us to walk in.
In the message, Todd shared his journey of becoming our lead pastor, a role he never initially envisioned for himself. Similarly, Ephesians 2:10 tells us that God has a unique purpose for each of us. We are His handiwork, crafted with intention and care. The Greek word for "handiwork" is "poiema," which can be translated as "workmanship" or "masterpiece." This means that each of us is a unique creation, designed by God to fulfill specific good works.
Reflecting on this, consider how God has uniquely equipped you with talents, experiences, and passions. Just as Todd felt overwhelmed when he stepped into his new role, he ultimately found his place, and you too may feel uncertain about your path. However, trust that God has prepared good works for you. These works are not just tasks but opportunities to reflect His love and grace in the world.
Think about the areas in your life where you can make a difference. It could be in your family, workplace, or community. The good works God has prepared for you are not always grand gestures but can be simple acts of kindness and service. Embrace your role as God's masterpiece, knowing that He has a plan and purpose for you.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will confess to God and turn away from one character flaw in my life.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for creating me with a purpose. Help me to recognize the good works You have prepared for me and to walk in them faithfully. Give me the courage and strength to make a difference in the lives of those around me. Amen.
