Developing Christ-Centered Character
OPENING PRAYER:
Lord, as I dive into Your Word today, help me to understand the importance of Christ-centered character. Transform my heart and mind to reflect Your love and integrity in all we do. Amen.
READ: 1:6-7 (NIV
An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain."
1:6-7 (NIV
REFLECT:
Paul outlines the character qualities required for elders in the church. These qualities are essential for anyone seeking to live a life that honors God and impacts others positively.
The message highlighted the importance of character over competence. Paul’s list of qualities for elders in Titus 1:6-7 serves as a blueprint for Christ-centered character. Being blameless, faithful, and self-controlled are not just for church leaders but are attributes every believer should strive for.
Consider the first quality Paul mentions: blameless. This does not mean being perfect but living a life of integrity. Integrity involves consistency between our beliefs and actions. It means being honest, trustworthy, and reliable. Reflect on areas in your life where you may struggle with integrity. Are there inconsistencies between your public persona and private life?
Paul also emphasizes the importance of being faithful to one's spouse and managing one's household well. Our closest relationships often reveal our true character. How we treat our family members is a reflection of our relationship with God. Are you patient, loving, and kind to your spouse and children? Do you lead by example in your home?
Lastly, Paul warns against negative behaviors such as being overbearing, quick-tempered, and given to drunkenness. These behaviors can destroy our witness and hinder our ability to do good. Reflect on any negative behaviors you struggle with and pray for God's help and seek accountability from a trusted friend or mentor.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will confess to God and turn away from one character flaw in my life.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing the importance of Christ-centered character. Help me to grow in integrity, faithfulness, and self-control. Transform my heart and mind to reflect Your love and grace in all I do. Amen.
