The Harvest That's Coming
OPENING PRAYER:
Father, when the work of faith, building feels slow and the results seem invisible, anchor my hope in Your promises. Remind me that every seed planted in faithfulness will bear fruit in Your perfect timing.
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
Paul wrote these words to the churches in Galatia, communities struggling with false teaching and discouragement. Throughout the letter, he's been calling them back to the gospel of grace and encouraging them to live by the Spirit. This verse comes in a section about sowing and reaping, a farming metaphor that would have resonated deeply with an agrarian society. The promise is clear: perseverance leads to harvest, but only if we don't quit.
REFLECT:
Jarred ended the message with this verse for a reason. Because if you've been listening all week, if you've been taking this seriously, you might be feeling the weight of it. You might be thinking about the kids in your life who seem far from God, or the conversations that went sideways, or the years you feel like you've already lost. You might be exhausted from trying to be intentional, from putting trusted voices in place, from fighting the culture and the schedules and the resistance. And the enemy wants you to believe it's too late, that there's no way this is going to work, that the harvest will never come.
But Paul says don't become weary in doing good. Don't give up. Pastor Jarred acknowledged this tension honestly: "Maybe for you and I, as we think about modeling this for our kids, instead of us just trying to have a conversation with the kids in our life about the decisions they can make...what does it look like to be devoted, to be devoted to those things and allow the Holy Spirit to guide our conversations." He's saying the breakthrough might not come from one more perfectly crafted talk, it might come from one more prayer, one more step of faithfulness, one more day of showing up and trusting God with the outcome. The Holy Spirit is at work even when we can't see it. Seeds are germinating in the dark soil before any green shoots appear. The harvest is coming, not because of our perfection, but because God keeps His promises. Your faithfulness matters. That one conversation, that Wednesday night prioritized, that mentor invited in, that example lived out, it's all sowing seed. And at the proper time, in God's perfect timing, there will be a harvest if you don't give up.
APPLY:
Write down the name of the young person God has placed on your heart this week. Under their name, write one specific step you're committing to take, whether it's a prayer practice, a conversation, a schedule change, or connecting them with community. Put that paper somewhere you'll see it daily. Every time you see it, pray Galatians 6:9 over them and over yourself. Ask God for endurance to keep sowing, and faith to trust Him for the harvest.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will take one step to help the kid in my life discover community.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Jesus, when I'm tempted to grow weary, remind me that You are the Lord of the harvest. Every faithful step I take is a seed planted in Your kingdom. Give me perseverance to keep investing in the next generation, even when I can't see the fruit yet. I trust You with the outcomes and surrender the timeline to You. Let the harvest come in Your perfect time.
