Pray
OPENING PRAYER:
Lord bless this time we spend together today. Thank you for allowing me to come before you and spend these moments in your presence.
READ:
“He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:41-42
REFLECT:
Jesus often spent time away from the disciples and other followers to be alone with God. This is what Jesus was doing right before what would be the most difficult time in his life. Jesus knew he was going to face something unimaginably hard. Jesus’ first step was to turn to the Father.
Jesus could have relied on this own strength, and he could have discussed his concerns about what was to come with the disciples. Instead, he went away and spent time praying and being with God. How often is this our first response when we face trials? It is so easy to try and lean on our own strength. Turning to God should be our first step when times get tough. Coming to the Father, with all of our concerns, doubts and fears is where we should begin. All too often we end up here after we have tried to muddle through on our own power. Let us start by turning to God and letting him be in control. We can persevere through difficulty by spending time with God.
APPLY:
Spend some significant time with God today. See if you can set aside 30-45 minutes to spend time in prayer and solitude with the Lord. Bring to him any worries or troubles you may have. Let God be in control of every aspect of your life, even the difficult ones.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, I want you to be in control of my life. Help me to turn to you first always. I know I can make it through any difficulty with you by my side.
