The Power of Words
OPENING PRAYER:
Gracious God, today we seek to understand the power of words in shaping our identity. May Your truth replace the lies we’ve believed. Amen.
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."
This proverb highlights the profound impact words can have, both positively and negatively, on our lives and the lives of others.
Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
REFLECT:
Words are powerful. They can build up or tear down, heal or wound. In Pastor Carter’s message this past weekend, we were reminded of the negative words we often use to describe ourselves—words like "incompetent" or "unworthy." These words can imprison us, keeping us from experiencing the flourishing life God intends. In biblical times, names and words held significant meaning, often reflecting one's character or destiny. Consider how God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, signifying his new identity and purpose. Similarly, God’s Word speaks life and truth over us, countering the lies we’ve believed. What words have you allowed to define you? Today, let’s choose to speak God’s truth over our lives, embracing His words of life and hope.
APPLY:
Identify a negative word you’ve believed about yourself. Find a scripture that counters this lie and meditate on it throughout the day.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will embrace the words “Now there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
One way you could do this is by identifying a negative word you’ve believed about yourself. Find a scripture that counters this lie and meditate on it throughout today.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Father, thank You for the power of Your Word to transform our lives. Help me to speak words of life and truth, both to myself and others. May I live in the freedom of Your love and grace. Amen.
