The Gospel is a Gift
OPENING PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you today to learn more about you and your will for our lives. We know that in this life everyone walks with someone and we want to be intentional about whom we are walking with. Help us to be willing to share the Good News with others.
” For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV
REFLECT:
In a world where it feels like nothing is free, where everything has a price and a tax on top of that, it is a wonderful, refreshing truth that the Gospel of Jesus is indeed a free gift to all who will receive it.
Romans 6:23 reminds us “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Salvation is a gift freely given.
We read yesterday in John 4 that when Jesus approached the woman at the well, she reminded him that he was a Jew and she was a Samaritan and they should not be talking. “Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.’” The gift of God is living water.
There is nothing that you could have done or could do in the future that would earn your salvation. It is a gift, freely given.
APPLY:
Today, let’s look for an opportunity to give someone a no-strings-attached gift. Their reaction will be a good reminder how we all need the Good News of Jesus.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Thank you, Jesus, for offering us grace that saves us. We know we could never earn our own salvation. Remind of us how this feels so that we will be willing to share your Good News with others – we don’t want them to miss out on your gift. Amen
