Our Job Is to Be Obedient, God’s Job Is the Rest
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, help me understand that investing in others is important. Amen.
"We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
REFLECT:
I was once an ambassador for a popular author who was releasing a new book. As his ambassador, I was responsible for sharing the news about his book. I posted the content of the book on my social media, I took pictures holding the book and I told others to go buy it. I championed the book’s cause and message wherever I had influence.
We find in scripture the Apostle Paul writing to the people in Corinth about being ambassadors of the Gospel. We see in the verse that he’s charging them with this call to own the message of their faith. He tells the people to think of it as if “God were making his appeal through us.” Paul was telling them they were responsible for sharing the Gospel with the people God had placed in their lives.
APPLY:
Like I was an ambassador for sharing that book with everyone I knew, and like Paul was telling the Corinthians to be ambassadors of their faith, we are called to do the same with our faith. When Paul writes “God makes his appeal through us” he’s trying to make us feel the responsibility of sharing the Gospel. Our faith is not meant to be private but one that is shared with others.
When we take ownership of walking alongside someone and sharing our faith with them, we sometimes get focused on the results. We wonder if sharing matters, we want to know if our investment is making a difference. Our job is to be obedient and take a step of faith, God’s job is the result. We have to trust that the Holy Spirit will move in their heart because we shared with them.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I pray for wisdom and confidence in sharing the Good News with others. I pray for more of your presence in me Lord. Amen.
