Christmas At The Movies - Week 2 - Day 4
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, thank you that you care for every area of my life. You know my every need. Help me to trust you for everything. Amen.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
REFLECT:
This time of year always reminds me of a Christmas years ago. Our children were young and I was laid-off. Christmas was coming but the money was not. Of course I panicked! My grandmother and my family both had pure bred poodles. Her dog’s name was Candy and ours was Mandy. Because of her health, she needed to find a new home for Candy and she told me I could sell her dog to help raise money for the kid’s Christmas gifts. I placed an ad in the paper and sold her dog right away. It wasn’t a lot of money but it was a start. As the calls for the dog continued to come, I was asked by an elderly caller if I had any other dogs. Before I knew it I had told her about our dog Mandy and she made me an offer of $100.00 if I would sell her. With great contemplation and sadness, I consented to sell Mandy. This would cover our Christmas for our kids and that’s what was the most important to me. As we said goodbye to Mandy I took the money and purchased the best Christmas I could.
But God…he was not done. A few weeks later I again received a call from the lady who had bought Mandy. She had gotten a report that she had cancer and would be spending much time in the hospital. She asked if I would take Mandy back, but she did not want her money back! When we picked Mandy up she was so glad to see us and she became an even closer part of our family than ever before. Coincidence or blessing? I know what I believe!
APPLY:
God supplies in mysterious ways and he cares for our every need. It is amazing to look back and see his great compassion and perfect will working in our lives. That Christmas was truly one of the most memorable and our children were so elated, never knowing the true cost and most of all, the great lesson I learned. Remember to trust that God knows you and will specifically care for your needs.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we love you and trust your will for our lives. Thank you for being such a good, good Father. Amen.
