Whispers in the Night: The Shepherd's Surprise
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, as we approach the celebration of Christ's birth, open our hearts to hear Your whispers in the quiet moments of this sacred season. May Your Spirit guide us to understand the depth of Your love and the humility of Your presence. Amen.
"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.'"
REFLECT:
As Christmas approaches, we find ourselves in a season of anticipation, much like the shepherds on that holy night. Pastor Christian Hallberg shared how shepherds were often overlooked, yet God chose them to receive the first announcement of Christ's birth. This choice reflects God's heart for the humble and the marginalized, reminding us that the good news of Christmas is for everyone.
Christian's story of working in pool construction, dealing with the dirtiest of jobs, mirrors the shepherds' experience. Both were in positions that society might deem lowly, yet it is in these places that God often chooses to reveal His glory. As we prepare for Christmas, we are reminded that God's presence is found in the most unexpected places, and His message of hope is for all.
This Christmas, let us embrace the humble circumstances of our lives as opportunities to encounter God's presence. Like the shepherds, we may feel unseen or unimportant, but God sees us and desires to speak into our lives. Their response to the angel's message encourages us to be open to God's unexpected invitations, to step out in faith when He calls.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will slow down, and I will let God lead. For you, take time to reflect on an area of your life where you feel overlooked or undervalued this Christmas. Ask God to reveal His presence and purpose in that situation. Consider how you might respond to His call, even in the midst of humility.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for seeing us in our humble places and for choosing to reveal Your glory to us this Christmas. Help us to respond with faith and joy, trusting in Your perfect plan. Amen.
