Why Am I Here? To Have An Impact.
OPENING PRAYER:
Spirit, remind us you are with us today.
READ:
“And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’
“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
REFLECT:
Our purpose in life is not primarily to attain “comfort” and “success” now, but rather to have an impact/legacy while we are here. Jesus was our ultimate example of this.
In his time as a man on earth, Jesus’ life was anything but comfortable. He lived a modest life and one full of heartbreak and challenge. He carried a great burden, but his impact was made because of his great love.
APPLY:
We don’t have to carry the burden that Jesus bore for us, so we are in a great position to have a huge impact on earth as we carry his love forward. As we focus our hearts and eyes on the eternal (more on that tomorrow), we can impact the lives of those around us by showing what it looks like to act justly, love mercy and kindness, and to walk humbly with God. As we follow his intention for our lives, we will see the impact of his love grow and multiply in our lives.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Spirit, show us where you are moving and leading us to impact the world around us.
