Remembering What God Has Done for You

OPENING PRAYER:

Lord, help me remember how much You care for me. Amen

READ: Psalms 103:1-5 NIV

“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Psalms 103:1-5 NIV

REFLECT:

The summer of 1994, I and several men from Bible Christian Church in Garden City KS loaded up in cars and headed to Boulder Colorado to attend “Promise Keepers.” This was a Christian men’s movement started by Bill McCartney, legendary Colorado University (CU) football coach. It was an experience none of us who attended will ever forget. The first event was held in the CU stadium which was filled to capacity and opened with Pastor Chuck Swindoll riding in on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and the experience grew from. The worship of God was thunderous with tens of thousands of men singing hymns and praise songs to Him. I can say that the hairs on the back of my neck literally stood up and chills ran through my body. The Holy Spirit was there in the stadium during the sessions.

The strong Biblical messages focused on how we needed to remember what God had done for us and how we could truly become men of God leading our families. We left the conference praising God, truly renewed and ready to tackle the world for God.

APPLY:

The problem with sessions like this is they cannot be sustained without support. We established small study/support groups when we returned home. They helped us continue to focus on God and remember what he has done for us. Often, we walk out of a weekend service pumped for God, but the energy begins to dissipate as the week goes on. We all need the support of small groups to help us renew our strength. If you don’t have that support, contact the church office and they will connect you to one.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Praise the Lord, oh my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Amen
