Staying Awake
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, as we begin this journey of reflection, open our hearts and minds to Your Word. Help us to stay awake and alert, ready to receive Your guidance and wisdom. Amen.
“So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected."
In this passage, Jesus warns His disciples to be vigilant and prepared for His return. The imagery of a thief in the night emphasizes the unexpected nature of His coming, urging believers to live in a state of readiness.
REFLECT:
In his message this past weekend, Pastor Hutchison reminds us of the importance of being spiritually awake and prepared for Jesus' return. Just as the disciples were shocked by Jesus' prediction of the temple's destruction, we too can be caught off guard by the events of life if we are not spiritually vigilant. The temple, a symbol of God's presence, was central to the Jewish faith, and its destruction signified a profound shift. Similarly, Jesus' return will mark a significant transformation in the world.
The call to stay awake is not just about being aware of the signs of the times but also about living a life that reflects our faith and readiness for Christ's return. This involves a conscious effort to prioritize our spiritual lives amidst the distractions and busyness of daily routines. Todd’s message challenges us to examine our lives and consider whether we are truly prepared for Jesus' return or if we have become complacent.
In our personal lives, staying awake means being intentional about our relationship with God. It requires us to engage in regular prayer, study of the Word, and fellowship with other believers. It also means being mindful of how we use our time, resources, and talents for God's glory. By doing so, we align ourselves with God's purposes and remain ready for His return.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will invest in my _______ so that I'm ready for Jesus' return.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for the reminder to stay awake and be prepared for Your return. Help me to live each day with purpose and intentionality, seeking to honor You in all that I do. Guide me as I strive to grow closer to You and remain vigilant in my faith. Amen.
