Generosity as Worship

OPENING PRAYER:

Lord, as we explore the theme of generosity, help us to see our giving as an act of worship. May our hearts be open to Your leading, and may our lives reflect Your generosity. Amen.

READ: Luke 21:1-4

As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

REFLECT:

The widow's offering is a profound example of generosity as worship. Her gift was not measured by its monetary value but by the heart and sacrifice behind it. The message draws a parallel between this widow and the story of Cornelius, highlighting that God values the heart of the giver more than the size of the gift. This challenges us to reconsider how we view generosity. In a world that often equates worth with wealth, the widow's story reminds us that true value lies in the intention and sacrifice of our giving. Her act of worship was not about the amount but about her trust in God's provision. This is a powerful lesson for us as we seek to build a legacy of generosity. Our giving should be an expression of our faith and love for God, not a means to gain recognition or favor.

As we reflect on this, we are encouraged to examine our own hearts and motivations. Are we giving out of abundance or out of trust? Are we seeking to honor God with our resources, or are we holding back out of fear or selfishness? The widow's story invites us to step out in faith, trusting that God will use our offerings, no matter how small, to accomplish His purposes.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will create a legacy through my commitment to All Things New.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of the widow's faith and generosity. Help us to give with open hearts, trusting that You will use our offerings to further Your kingdom. Amen.
