Embracing a New Heart

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, as we embark on this journey of transformation, we ask for Your guidance. Open our hearts to receive Your Word and let the Holy Spirit lead us into a deeper understanding of Your will. Amen.

READ: Acts 4:32-35

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

This passage describes the early church's unity and generosity. The believers were of one heart and mind, sharing everything they had, and no one was in need. This communal life was a testament to the power of the resurrection and the grace of God at work among them.

REFLECT:

The early church exemplified a community transformed by the resurrection of Jesus. Their unity and willingness to share everything they had was a direct result of their new hearts, given by the Holy Spirit. This transformation was not just about material possessions but a profound change in their values and priorities. They understood that their worth was not in what they owned but in who they followed—Jesus Christ.

In our lives, we often hold onto our possessions and plans, believing they define us. However, in Pastor Elliott's message, he reminds us that true life and freedom come from letting go and trusting God. The early believers were not coerced into giving; their generosity was a natural outflow of their new hearts. This challenges us to examine our own hearts and consider what we might be holding onto that prevents us from fully experiencing the life God offers.

The story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5 serves as a cautionary tale. Their attempt to deceive the community revealed their old hearts, focused on self-preservation and deceit. This stark contrast with the rest of the community highlights the importance of integrity and transparency in our walk with God. We are called to live with open hearts, ready to respond to God's call, trusting that He will provide for our needs.

Today, take a moment to reflect on what you might be holding onto that prevents you from fully trusting God.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will focus on Jesus and not myself as I make my commitment to All Things New.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for the new heart You offer us through Jesus. Help us to let go of our fears and trust in Your provision. May we live with open hearts, ready to serve and share Your love with others. Amen.
