Questions about Generosity with the Next Generation

At Pathway Church, we believe generosity is a skill that has to be learned over the course of time. That means that the next generation of our church needs to be taught about it now, if we hope for them to become outrageously generous people when they grow up! Use these questions developed by our staff to step into modeling and teaching about generosity to the students and children in your home!

  • Do you want to earn money in our home to give to All Things New?
    • • Household chores, lemonade stands, and selling toys and games are all great ways for young people to work in your home towards making money for all things new!
  • Is money/resources what gives you happiness in life?
    • • The Bible directly states that it is “meaningless” to think that wealth brings true happiness (Ecclesiastes 5:10).
    • • The Bible teaches us that God is the source of all joy that can be found in this life. (Psalm 43:4 and Romans 15:13)
  • Do all of our resources really belong to God?
    • • The Bible teaches us that the “Earth is the Lord’s” and that everything in it belongs to Him. (Psalm 24:1)
  • Is generosity only about money?
    • • Generosity is about what we do with our time, talents, and money. We strive to grow in generosity each day of our lives because we serve a God who was generous with His own life, even to death on the cross. While generosity is about more than money, God directly calls us to be generous with our financial resources.
  • How can you use All Things New to grow your trust in God?
    • • Our hope is that all of our Children and Students would use this experience as a way to grow their trust that God is their ultimate provider. (1 Timothy 6:17) Money comes and goes in seasons, but God’s provision is always available to us!
  • How is generosity a key to bringing joy in our lives?
    • • In the book of Acts it directly states that we receive more joy and blessings from giving to others than in receiving gifts ourselves. (Acts 20:35)
  • Why does the church/God need money?
    • • The Church uses money to meet the needs of the people that participate in the body and to meet the needs of the community as a whole. (Acts: 2:42-47)
  • What are needs vs. what are wants?
    • • Needs are things that are critical to our existence like food, water, clothing, and shelter. Wants are things that are not required for survival.
  • How does God want me to manage material things?
    • • We are called of good stewards of all that we own (Matt. 25:14-30). We are also called to live a life that is focused more on eternal things than material things that do not last. (Matt. 6:19-21)
  • How can you give without a job?
    • • Every person has something to give! From our youngest children, to our teenagers working jobs for the first time with an eye ahead on their college years, we believe if we can learn to be generous when they don’t have a lot, we will be even more generous when we do have plenty!
  • If we get better at generosity, how does that impact our community?
    • • As we meet needs in our community, people will see the heart of a generous and loving God through our generosity, and they will glorify Him! (Matt. 5:16)
  • Does God care how much you give?
    • • God doesn’t care as much about the dollars and cents as much as He does about the condition of our heart and our desire to trust Him. (Mark 12:42-44)
  • Can you really make an impact if your gift is a small amount?
    • • Absolutely! The Scriptures show that God has the ability to turn small acts of generosity into large and impactful moments! (John 6:8-14)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What are you asking me to do?

First and foremost we ask that you pray and seek God’s leading on what He is asking of you. Prepare your heart to hear Him, and then listen to what He says. Engage in a Group during this season, if you are not already in one. Engage in personal reflection with God in the All Things New booklet you will be receiving. Talk with your spouse, your family, or others about what this commitment will mean for this next exciting season of your life. We are asking that you make a sacrificial commitment to gospel-centered generosity – whatever it is that God leads you to do. Follow His leading.

Finally, we ask that you prepare to be amazed. We serve an awesome God and He is going to move in huge ways! We anticipate an unprecedented impact from our collective All Things New commitments – something only God can bring about. Mark your calendar for Commitment Weekend, November 16/17, and prepare to experience a life-changing worship service that will forever be remembered as a defining moment for our church and for your own faith journey.

  • Are there additional ways besides cash that I can give more towards All Things New?

Be creative as you explore ways you and your family can give towards All Things New. You might have stocks, property, valuables, or other items of that nature. Or perhaps you have some resources that God has blessed you with in the past, which He may now be calling you to share. Let us know if you need assistance with facilitating gifts of property or stock; and we would be happy to help you with that. You can contact Cori White at [email protected] to make a gift of this type.

  • How long is my commitment?

This will be a two-year commitment (24 months). The fulfillment period for your commitment will begin with Celebration Weekend on the weekend of December 7/8, 2024, and it will culminate December 31 of 2026.

  • How did the 10 Year Vision for Pathway originate that has led us to launch All Things New?

Pathway leadership has been praying for the past year about the next 10 years of ministry and asking God for direction. The 10 Year Vision represents a prayerful process asking the question “What does God desire our church family to do for the Kingdom of God in the next 10 years?” We believe the 10 Year Vision will spread the message of Jesus locally and around the world in a powerful way. Our community and the world will be changed because more people are following Jesus, and these followers of Jesus will impact more and more people. This is what our world needs more than ever! All Things New is the kickoff and represents the first two years of this 10 Year Vision.

  • How does All Things New support our 10 Year Vision?

All Things New is the kickoff and represents the first two years of the 10 Year Vision. We believe God is doing a new thing! We can see it at Valley, in our kids and student ministries, and at our micro-campuses! He’s already ahead of us! In this two-year adventure, we are seeking God to do a work IN us and THROUGH us, as we continue to connect people to Jesus and help them become His fully-devoted followers.

  • What if I have never even given to Pathway before?

This is a "one fund" generosity initiative; it is different from a traditional capital campaign where you are called to give an extra gift above and beyond your normal giving - thus creating TWO STEPS for people who aren't yet giving. All Things New is a call to sacrificial, Jesus-centered generosity for absolutely everyone at Pathway. If you have never given before, this is your chance to get in the game with a committed sacrifice. We are praying that you will.

  • What if I am new around here?

We are so glad you are here! All Things New is about the vision for our church and our personal growth in giving as followers of Jesus. One thing you should know about Pathway is we believe that the local church is the most compelling mission to give toward, and we would love for you to make Pathway your home and join us in All Things New. There is an exciting journey ahead and we would love to have you be a part of it. If you are ready, this is a perfect time for you to put a stake in the ground and make this YOUR church. We want you on the team!
